If you want your car to be at its best, you can definitely contact a mobile car detailing company so they could go to your place and start detailing the exteriors, interiors and even the engine of your vehicle, though you can always clean your own car. One of the things that you may need for a spotless finish is a clay bar.
You may have noticed detailers use this clay bar in removing surface dust, oils, and other debris from your car. This is because a clay bar is an abrasive that can bring back the original underlying paint back out. But using the clay bar needs precaution since you might destroy the car paint if you do not do it right.
Here are the steps on using the clay bar:
- Purchase a clay bar from an automotive shop. Cut the clay bar into 3 smaller pieces. Working with smaller pieces actually makes it easier to handle and the clay also won’t go to waste.
- Manipulate one portion of the cut out clay with your hands. The warmth of the hands will make the clay softer. When it is soft enough, flatten it out and shape it into a small circle approximately ¼ inches thick.
- Do not drop the clay to the floor or else the dirt on the floor will stick to it and you will no longer be able to use that piece. Before rubbing the clay to the paint surface, spray the area with a lubricant. If you are totally new to lubricants, there is a specific type used for clay bars.
- While the lubricant is still wet, gently slide the clay back and forth on the surface without applying pressure. The dirt will slowly come off and transfer to the clay. Once the surface is clean, do not overdo the sliding or else the paint will be marred. Lubricate the next 3×3 portion and do that side instead.
- If you are too scared to try this by yourself, you might as well just contact experts to do the job. An auto detailing company can do this process quick and well.
